Leaders do not learn to lead in a classroom. Leaders develop their most important skills and competencies on the job. Aspiring leaders who are accepted into this rigorous program are placed into full-time residency positions within turnaround schools under the mentorship of a current turnaround principal. Over the course of this one-year program, aspiring leaders are provided opportunities to take on responsibilities and develop specific competencies. In addition to their residency placements, participants attend weekly seminars taught by experts on school improvement, adult learning, and turnaround leadership.
